2009 Chedoke Bantam Select Christmas Champions!

The Oakville BMO Titans spent their Christmas vacation in Hamilton playing in the Chedoke Select Christmas Tournament and went 5-0 to take the Bantam Division. The boys played three solid days of hockey to take their second Championship and go 10-0 in tournament play for the year!
Monday saw us start against Coronation and player of the game, Matthew Chau, backstopped a shutout en-route to a 4-0 victory. Captain A.J. Martins set the tone of his tournament MVP play scoring a shorthanded goal and pounding a Cornation player so hard into the scorer's booth that the scoreboard and game-clock were temporarily knocked out of service. Other Titans goals came from White (Scanlon, Williamson), Douglas and Szaniawski (Douglas, Sparling).
Tuesday morning we faced St. Catharines and skated to a 4-1 win. The boys really found how potent our blue-line could be and scored 3 goals off shots from the point.Player of the game, Kurtis Sparling scored one (Downmnan, Bonnici) and set up another Downman (Sparling) while a point shot from Tyler Dales lead to our first goal Martins (Dales, White). Mark Szaniawski (Martins, White) finished off the scoring on a nice drive to the net.
Tuesday night we faced unbeaten Milton and with a win we would advance to the Semi- Finals. The Titans weren't about to tempt fate and dominated Milton on the way to a 4-0 victory. A.J. Martins scored two, Martins and Martins (Szaniawski, White) while Connor White added a shorthanded goal and player of the game Tyler Dales (Sanderson) finished off with an awesome breakaway deke. Goalie Mathew Chau was stellar, once again, with his second shut-out of the tournament.
The Titans then broke for their Christmas Party at the Burlington Bowl and I believe the high score was Mitchell Douglas' 99. Good thing we're not a bowling team!
Wednesday morning we faced a tough Georgina team in a hard fought semi-final. Owen Williamson (Sutherland) started off the scoring, shorthanded, on a great wrist shot from just inside the blue-line at the end of the first. The Titans went up 2-0 in the second with another drive to the net by Szaniawski and set-up by player of the game Martins. But Georgina is a good team and they fought back to tie the game with power play and shorthanded goals of their own. The two teams continued to battle hard until Tyler Downman tipped in a centering pass from Martins to go up 3-2. The last 6 minutes of the third saw some furious action as Georgina threw everything they had at us but with more stellar play from Matthew Chau the Titans held on to advance to the finals.
The Titans faced Flamborough in the finals and started the scoring off as A.J. Martins shovelled in the rebound off a great point shot from Eric Sanderson. The goals continued to come from the blue-line and Kurtis Sparling got another one from a blast from the point. The Titans went to sleep for a few minutes in the second and allowed Flamborough to score one but then player of the game Angus Chalmers fed Owen Williamson who scored on a nice back-hand deke. Chalmers would also set up Tyler Downman for another and, although Flamborough managed one more, the Titans finished off the game skating to a 4-2 Championship victory. Congratulations boys. You earned it!
Peewe News - Oakville Storm Go Undefeated In Orangeville Tournament
The Oakville Storm entered Orangeville's Ray Hunt Classic Houseleague Tournament held over the Christmas break to play in the peewee division. This is a friendship tournament and all teams play three games. The Oakville Storm went into the Christmas break with a 11-0-0 record in MOHA play.
The team emerged from the tournament with their undefeated streak intact. Coach Peter McAleer says " I want to share our results from our tournament where we went 2 wins and 1 tie in the three game tournament. Horia Lucaciu gave up one goal over the three game span. This is the third tournament I've attended with a blue level team and the first time we have actually won any games."
The boys played well and deserve the recognition - Congratulations to the Oakville Storm players and Coach Peter.
BMO Titans 2009 Dan Pulham Bantam AE/Select Champs!

The Titans traveled to London on the weekend for the Dan Pulham Memorial Tournament and went 5-0 in the Bantam AE/Select division to take the Championship!
The tournament started Friday Morning against Brampton and it was nice to see one of our defensemen, Kurtis Sparling, open up the scoring on the way to a 4-2 victory. Martins (Bonnici), Williamson (Hazineh) and Downman (Hazineh) rounded out the rest of the Titans scoresheet
Game 2 saw us up against Milton and turned out to be one of the most entertaining games of the year. Milton is a very talented and well coached hockey team and plays a skating and puck movement game much like our own. The Titans had to give it everything they had and managed to wear down Milton in the third and come away with a 5-2 win on goals by Bonnici (Chalmers,Downman), Chalmers (Bonnici), Williamson (Shannon,Hazineh), White, and Martins (Sutherland).
We had most of the day to wait Saturday before our only game at 4:15 against Belle River and the boys came out a little flat. I knew we were in trouble when our simple out of the corner-pass-shoot warmup devolved into a mess. Belle River brought a 1-0 lead into the 3rd but 2 goals on one shift by Alec Sutherland (Bonnici,Douglas),
(Shannon,Dales) gave us a 1 goal lead that we managed to hang on to. (Thanks to goalie Matthew Chau!)
The Semi-Final game against Kitchener was a nail-biter tied 0-0 going into the 3rd when Jack Shannon (Williamson) finally opened the scoring at 14:42. Goals by Chalmers (Sparling,Hazineh) and another by Shannon would seal a 3-0 victory and propel us to the finals. Matthew Chau, again, was stellar in a shutout.
The finals against Port Colbourne turned out to be a game to remember. Alec Sutherland (Shannon,Bonnici) opened the scoring on a powerplay at 3:06 in the first. The two teams would battle without another score until 3:59 to go in the third when Port Colbourne tied it up.The last few minutes of the 3rd decided nothing and the two teams went to sudden death overtime.
Port Colbourne player Josh Hayes #17 a big, talented rushing defenseman made a major mistake taking his third penalty of the match at 6:48 of overtime and the Titans went on the powerplay once more. Conor White (Martins,Szaniawski) scored the golden goal at 4:53 and the Titans were tournament champions. What a game! What a weekend!
