MOHA Parents & Players,
Beginning this season, MOHA will be implementing the
CMRG Concussion Management program for all Rep and House League players in the Atom (born 2001) to Juvenile (born 1993 and 1994) age groups. This program includes the baseline test called ImPACT, which is the same neurocognitive test used by the NHL.
These players will be required to take the 35 minute computer baseline test prior to October 1
st, 2011.
Instructions will be sent to the primary e-mail addresses for all 2011-12 registered MOHA players in these age groups, prior to September 23rd, 2011.
The results of these baseline tests will be stored in the
ImPACT database for future reference in the event a player sustains a concussion. Only CMRG trained physicians, with experience in concussion management, will have access to the baseline tests that are stored in the database.
Participation in this program is
mandatory for all players in the targeted age groups.
We are pleased to participate in this program initiative for the benefit of our players.
We are confident that the
CMRG program is in fact a valuable tool in recognizing, evaluating and treating athletes who sustain sports related concussions.
In the event of a suspected concussion, a follow-up test will be used as part of their concussion assessment protocol in order to assist in a return to play decision. Players will be able to receive retests after an injury occurs from the following Sports Medicine Clinics in the Greater Toronto Area. These physicians have been trained in the return to play protocol, utilizing the
ImPACT software system, and their consent will be necessary in order for a player to return to play.
